Barra da Tijuca Beach
Barra da Tijuca has 27.3 kilometres of oceanic beaches: the largest is Praia da Barra, from the wharf of Barra to Pontal (Barra-Reserva-Recreio), 18 long, one of the largest of the state, featuring also three big lagoons as well as some minor ones and lakes.
Barra, is a relatively new area which started growing steadily during the ?90s. It is an eco minded area and, although wealthy, not traditionally aristocratic. It´s like the Miami of Rio de Janeiro, where you´ll be able to see a more American lifestyle than in the rest of Rio. Sports like surfing, kite surfing, and body boarding are often practiced here, and are taught in numerous schools in the area.
